MARVELOUS NEW THERMOMETER

Sep 24, 2009 Author: Gramma Bugpuddles | Filed under: Baby Health

Sick child. One of the scariest moments of a new mother’s life is when she feels baby’s forehead and it feels hotter than usual.  Trying to keep calm and not panic is the first thing she thinks.  Then the next thing she thinks is “Oh, where is that thermometer.”

Once she finds the thermometer then comes the problem of how she is going to administer this thing.  Baby’s behind is the place she thinks of first.  But if baby is wiggling and screaming, it is a dangerous thing she is thinking of doing.  Wiggling and screaming babies make it almost impossible to administer a thermometer. BABY BOTTLES! PLASTIC OR GLASS?

Jan 14, 2009 Author: Gramma Bugpuddles | Filed under: Baby Health

Up until a time when Grandma Bugpuddles was raising her children many years ago, there was no question about what to use.    Mothers nursed their babies; or if they had no milk of their own because of some illness or fever, then they purchased from a nursing woman who had more than enough of her own milk and was willing to share with others.  Some women actually earned a meager living wage as a “wet nurse.”  In still later times the purchased mother’s milk was sold in glass bottles.

Top rated Baby Monitors

Dec 14, 2008 Author: Gramma Bugpuddles | Filed under: Baby Safety

rosie-baby-monitorWouldn’t it be nice to have Rosie the Robot watching over your baby as you work around the house? Well since Rosie is not quit available yet, the next best this is a Baby Monitor.

Is a Baby Monitor a “must have?’ No, but it is one of those items that once you get one you’ll probably wonder how you ever lived without it. But with so many models and features to choose from it can be a little overwhelming.

There are essentially two basic types of Baby Monitors: Audio and Audio/Video. Both work by transmitting radio frequency from the base unit near the baby to the portable unit near you. These frequencies however may be interfered with from common household items like florescent lights, appliances, cordless phones, cellular phones and even your wireless home network. The most common of these items run at 2.4 megahertz. Read the rest of this entry »

Natural Fruits and Vegetables for Baby

Dec 4, 2008 Author: Gramma Bugpuddles | Filed under: Baby Nutrition

A dear friend of mine has a son, an only child, who is now 32 years old.  He is a big, tall, strapping, handsome young man who is never sick, (not even a cold now and then) has never been sick, and he has never had a cavity (and this without fluoride treatments or fluoride toothpaste). His strength and endurance are remarkable.  He is successful.  He is also very handsome.  How did he get this way?  I believe it started with his mother’s care from his earliest years.  I believe it started with how his mother fed him from babyhood through the day he left home to go out into the world on his own.  Read the rest of this entry »

A NEW MOM’S THOUGHTS ABOUT HER MOM

Dec 2, 2008 Author: Amy | Filed under: Mommy Talk

Everyone says that your relationship with your mom changes after you have a baby. Well, it couldn’t be more true.

I’m one of the lucky women that has a “best friend” mom, so I wasn’t expecting anything dramatically different. I mean, how could our friendship change due to some new tiny being that was going to suck up all my energy? Though I suspected my mom’s and my interactions would still be the same and as frequent, I was still eagerly anticipating the altered dynamic my new role would impart. Would we grow a bit more apart now that I have a brand new focus in life; would I get frustrated with her involvement, jealous? Would I no longer need her as my mom now that I’m someone’s mom?

SLEEPY TIME – HAPPY TIME OR OTHERWISE?

Nov 28, 2008 Author: Gramma Bugpuddles | Filed under: Baby Health

Instructions from child psychiatrists and psychologists regarding the where, the how, and the when of sleep time for babies has changed drastically over the years.  Some of the “experts” are still rummaging around looking for the correct answers.  It seems they may have been looking everywhere for the wisdom except in “mommie’s heart.”  Read the rest of this entry »
